The village of Miquelon is the chief settlement in the commune of Miquelon-Langlade located in the French overseas collectivity of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. The sign is a monument to the twinning (which began in 1984) of the commune of Miquelon-Langlade and the Iles-de-la-Madeleine in Quebec.
The sign also includes the Miquelon coat of arms, potraying the Acadian flag at the top, a field of green representing hope and resolution to live on the island, the kakawit bird (or Miquelon harelde) holding the flag of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, and two cod fish in the sea. The name Miquelon comes from a Basque word for Michael. Many of the earliest fisherman were named Michael.
Twin Cities / Sister Cities: Miquelon-Langlade
Iles-de-la-Madeleine
Address: The sign is located on N3 (Rue des Terre-Neuves), immediately northwest of the bridge.
