UNION CANAL
Following the Swatara creek from Pine Grove To main line of the canal at water works,was a feeder branch.It was in use from 1832-1862.
A portion of the BIG DAM,a gaurd lock,and several lift locks,Remain on the other side of Swatara.
They built this branch north to get to the Anthracite coal fields of western Schuylkill county!
At the head of the Swatara creek is the largest waterfalls in southern Pa. Near NEWTOWN,Pa. The Swatara Falls Cache is 175 ft.to the west of Swatara falls! 17923
