 The monument to the 19th Indiana Battery is a tall column topped by a stone carving of an eagle, with wings slightly spread. The eagle is standing on cannon barrels with an American flag draped around its feet. Below the carving is an inset bronze medallion of Indiana's state seal. On the back is a bronze relief plaque and war implements carved in relief and a description of the 19th Indiana Battery during the battle.

Saturday, September 19th, 1863, this battery reached Crawfish Springs at 7 A.M. after an all-night march from Pond Spring, thence moved to vicinity of Brotherton's and about 3:30 P.M .went into action south of the Poe house and west of the Lafayette Road, were Captain Harris was wounded. Being flanked on the right the battery withdrew to the north side of the Poe field, and was there engaged.

Sunday, September 20th, the battery became engaged at 10 A.M. where this monument stands and was in action here until noon. It was then moved to the south side of Kelley Field, a little northwest of where Colonel King’s monument now stands, remaining there until 5:30 P.M., when the battery retired, taking the body of Colonel King on a caisson.

Casualties: 2 enlisted men killed; Captain and 15 men wounded; 2 missing: aggregate loss 20.

19th Indiana Battery Light Artillery was an artillery battery that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. It was often referred to as Harris' Battery.

Service
The battery was organized at Indianapolis, Indiana and mustered in August 5, 1862 for a three year enlistment under the command of Captain Samuel J. Harris.

The battery was attached to 34th Brigade, 10th Division, Army of the Ohio, September 1862. 34th Brigade, 10th Division, I Corps, Army of the Ohio, to November 1862.
