The film School for Scoundrels was an adaption of the books One Upmanship and Lifemanship by Stephen Potter.
The central theme of the film is about being able to avoid being put down by other people. Henry Palfrey, played by Ian Carmichael, is one of life’s losers, always being put down by Raymond Delauney, played by Terry Thomas. Henry Palfrey’s luck changes when he enrols on Professor Potter’s Lifemanship courses, Professor Potter being played admirably by Alistair Sim.
The opening sequence has Henry Palfrey arriving at Yeovil Station, beautifully played by Hertford East station in reality.
