This sign depicts a simple scene from the past.
The B1043 is part of what was once (and still is), known as The Great North Road, a major coaching route between London and the north of England, and then further, to Scotland. The sign shows a coach on that route as well as, in the background, The Bell, an old coaching inn (WMAWTW).
There is I understand a sign at the south end of the village that features cheese.
