Der Wintersportort Kühtai liegt in den Stubaier Alpen am Kühtaisattel zwischen dem Nederbachtal im Westen und dem Sellraintal im Osten. Er gehört zur Gemeinde Silz, Bezirk Imst, Tirol.
Der Ort befindet sich in einer Höhe von 2.020 m und ist damit der höchstgelegene Skiort Österreichs. Zurzeit hat Kühtai acht gemeldete Einwohner. Ursprünglich gab es hier einen 1288 erstmals erwähnten Schwaighof, die Chutay (Kuhalm) der Grundherrenschaft von St. Petersberg. Erzherzog Leopold V. ließ von 1623 bis 1628 einen Fahrweg von Sellrain anlegen. Daraufhin wurde der Schwaighof zu einem Jagdschloss umgebaut.
Schon in den 30er Jahren des 19. Jahrhunderts hielten sich in Kühtai Bergsteiger und Sommerurlauber auf. Das Jagdschloss wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts zu einem Schlosshotel umgebaut. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wuchs Kühtai rasch zu einem Hoteldorf heran und ist heute ein beliebtes Wander- und Skigebiet.
Im Bereich der Ortschaft liegen die Schutzhäuser Dortmunder Hütte, Dreiseenhütte, die Gasthöfe Graf Ferdinand-Hütte, Kaiser Maximilian-Hütte und das Ferienheim Mittergrathütte, und die Almen Stockach und Untere Issalm, sowie das Kraftwerk Kühtai. In Kühtai befindet sich das Funkfeuer KTI einer internationalen Luftstraße.

The resort is located in the Stubai Alps, Kühtai on Kühtaisattel Nederbachtal between the west and the east Sellraintal. It belongs to the municipality Silz, District Imst, Austria.
The site is located at an altitude of 2,020 m, making it the highest ski resort in Austria. Kühtai currently has eight residents reported.
