An unexpected find on a day dedicated to waymarking. This sculpture commemorates Thailand's long running tin industry, of which Phuket was earlier in its history, an important part (information plaque in gallery). The sculpture struck me as 'shell-like'. It is situated on a road divider, on a major road leading out of the town of Phuket.
For those who say that abstract sculpture serves no useful purpose, I have but one thing to say, look at this sculpture. My 'driver' told me that the young local lads like to visit this statue, and then slide done its slopping exterior, as a test of their daring do.
