This is the new 'Rapid Penang' bus terminal for the island of Penang. This stretch of the Penang island coast faces the Malaysian mainland, and is the major transport hub for the island. Here, ferries and the bridge convey travellers across the water, and both passenger and freight ships dock. Georgetown, the largest town on the island surrounds this area.
'Rapid Penang' is a new (2007), government run bus service. It promises an efficient service. It serves the state of Penang, with links to the mainland.
The station itself is new, or certainly refurbished. It is a simple yet effective design, a long central waiting area, with buses parking around. There does seem to be not an overly large number of seats available for waiting passengers. During my short visit the station was busy.
