An old building in Georgetown, with, what looks to be, an interesting history.

This slightly worn looking building is situated in ‘old’ Penang, near the government quarter. The name is emblazoned on the facade. Now, while it seems to house a financial institution, as far as I can gather, it is still used for its original purpose. The year of the buildings dedication is above the main entrance, and, it is a pleasant looking building.

The building was designed by a local architect, Chew Eng Eam in 1926. On the rooftop is an open air verandah with splended views of the nearby park. The building carries ornamentations in the form of urns, corbels, terrace balustrades and mock Tudor gable.

From the website of the organisation: (visit link)
"Established in 1903, the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) was one of the pioneer trade organization founded at the turn of the twentieth century in this region. It has come a long way since its humble inception and is now one of the strongest commercial institutions in Malaysia in terms of membership and organizational and functional characteristic that is well recognized by both the public and private sectors. In year 2003, the Registrar of Society of Malaysia (ROS) presented the Award Certificate of Excellent Society to the Chamber. It has also been awarded the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System (QMS) Certificate in March 2006."
