This is one of the many features of Addenbrooke's Hospital's art collection. The art projects in the hospital are entirely funded through charitable funds. Creating inspiration in a place we go to seek treatment and hopefully recover, the artwork offers time for reflection.
There is an information plaque which reads:
'Jim Anderson
Mosaics
Jim grew up locally and was treated at Addenbrooke's as a boy. In 2005 he brought a group of school children from Kenya to the hospital where they worked with young patients from wards C2 and D2 to create the middle mosaic using mostly recycled materials.
In 2007, he produced two further panels, which have been mounted either side. To complete the series Jim is currently working on ideas for a library themed panel, which we hope to see in the near future. The funding for these panels came from a private donation and Addenbrooke's Arts would like to thank the donor, as well as Jim and the children who worked on them.'
The website below details the creation of the mosaics with both children from Addenbrooke's with children from Kenya between Monday 15th Friday and 19th August 2005. The Kenyan children were aged between 9 and 15 and were members of the Juhudi Children's Club in Nairobi, Kenya. The mosaics were installed with a special ceremony on Wednesday 24th August 2005, attended by Sir Edward Clay, the former High Commissioner of Kenya.
Specific visit requirements: Access is during hospital opening hours with a suggestion between 9am and 5pm as a normal guideline.
