This Bird in Hand sign is identical to the one at Gosmore (WMATNK) and the Falcon at Park Street near St Albans (WMB1WX). A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. This well known saying is a fairly common name for pubs. Here it is a traditional falconer's gloved hand and a falcon. There are other versions around the country from rather crass depictions of a man with a young woman in his arms, to dialect versions of the names.

At this pub there are two signs and they are identical.
