The pub was originally called the globe. The story goes that the barrels, or tubs, were originally in the pub yard, and were put on the wall to represent two halves of a globe. The staves of the barrel were supposed to represent lines of longitude and the bands were lines of latitude. Of course it wasn't long before the locals started to call the pub the two tubs.

The sign shows 2 old barrels or tubs, as they would have been when they were still in the pub yard. They’re being put into good use as the supports for a picnic table.

The pub stands on the site where the annual oak apple celebrations were carried out. This festival was in the memory of Charles II hiding in an oak apple tree after the battle of Worcester in 1651. The pub was built in the late 17th century and there was a local legend that the tree was used as timbers in the construction of the pub. Then in 1949 some workmen repairing the wattle and daub walls discovered one of the trees within the walls. Part of the tree is now permanently exposed for all to see.
Date of first pub on site: Late 17th Century
