Situated 20km southwest of Te Kuiti on State Highway 3, Piopio lies in the heart of the King Country. Beside SH3 there is a large quarry just outside Piopio, specializing in Roading Aggregate, Farm Aggregate, Drainage Metal, Builders Mix and Rubble. High quality greywacke aggregate, particularly for highwaysealing chips, railway ballast and concrete, is transported from Pio Pio for use in the surrounding districts.
The quarry's activities can be viewed from the side of SH3.
