There has been a station here since before the Civil War. The current building has been re-built in the past, and is currently undergoing another rebuilding. At one time the platform and tracks were at the same elevation as the station, but at some point the tracks were grade-separated from the local streets, causing the platforms to be located on top of a retained fill. The station is also a stop on the Kenosha Streetcar, connecting the station with the lakefront and other attractions.
