The hotel was made from Burmantofts terracotta. Burmantofts pottery was named after an area in Leeds. It originally started as a manufacturer of ceramic pipes and construction materials. Later they realised that the red clay used in their manufacture could be made into decorative building materials. At one time the company had a site covering 16 acres with 90 kilns.
The building is no longer a hotel. The upper floors have been turned into offices with an entrance known as Jubilee Chambers. On the ground floor is a gentleman’s lap dancing club called the Red Leopard.
