Located upon what is known locally as "Chimney Top", this azimuth mark helped established the proper orientation for maps of the Bay Mountain ridges.

Official descriptions:
1934
AZIMUTH MARK IS ON KNOB SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN AND 0.25 MILE FROM STATION. FOLLOWING DISTANCES AND AZIMUTHS ARE FROM STATION - KINGSPORT, EASTMAN KODAK CORPORATION, STACK, 12 MILES, 049 DEG 02 MIN 13 SEC, AND FALL BRANCH BAPTIST CHURCH (WHITE), 5 MILES, 082 DEG 19 MIN 54 SEC.

1961
THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD REFERENCE DISK, STAMPED CHIMNEY AZI 1934, CEMENTED IN A DRILLED HOLE IN A BOULDER FLUSH. IT IS 35 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE AIRWAY BEACON NO. 23 AND SET ON THE NORTHERN SLOPE OF THE RIDGE.

Found the mark with BSA Troop 48. The hike is 1.3 miles with ~1400 ft elevation gain (steep!) to ridgeline. The mark has been severely damaged. The post is firmly set into the rock outcropping with just a nickel-sized piece of the disk on top, showing the central part of the arrow, the "Z" in AZI, and "MN" from CHIMNEY. Since 1934, the Eastman Chemical Company (no longer part of Kodak) as significantly expanded so it is tougher to pick out the original powerhouse stack.
Azimuth Condition: Unreadable

Your Directions:
Access through private lands. Route taken was Horton Highway to Chimney Top Loop to gravel Sugar Hollow Lane. Permission given by landowner to hike up former logging roads to top of ridgeline, and then over to the former airport beacon. Mark post is NW of beacon.
