Luther Cemetery is located two miles east of Indian Meridian. From Route 66, turn north on Peebly Road one-half mile. This is a very nicely maintained cemetery.
A monument stands next to the grave site of Pvt. Wm. M. Perkins who was killed in action in France in 1918. The monument was most likely placed here in 1918 by the family of Pvt. Perkins as his name is also engraved on the monument.
This monument has a three-tiered base with a square granite column with a four gabled top. The inscription reads: "In memory of our boys who served in the World's War."
The engraving of their family member which also appears on the monument reads: Pvt. Wm. M. Perkins / Co. C 165th Inf. T. / 1894-1918 / Killed in Action / St. Mihiel France."
The actual tombstone for Pvt. Perkins is located several feet from the monument and reads: "Wm. M. Perkins / 1894-1918 / Rainbow Division / Killed in Action France."
