The cornerstone on First Baptist Church was laid in 1910 and reads: "First Baptist Church / 1889 - 1910 / Jesus Christ the Chief Corner Stone." The church held its first service here on February 26, 1911.

This is a large red brick building, with its main entrances facing west on Robinson. There is a double entrance in mirror image. Each entrance is accessed by a staircase which is parallel to the street, with a brick side wall hiding the stairs from view. The wall at the top step is approximately seven feet from the ground. Each of these staircases leads to a set of arched double doors with a cast stone surround. A brick pilaster topped with a stone peak stands at each side of the entrances.

A large, arched stained glass window with iron grill work is centered on the facade. The building has stone trim and window surrounds. On the south side of the sanctuary, between each window, a brick column projects about 3 feet from the wall. At the southeast corner of the church is a tall, square tower which holds the church bells.

North of the sanctuary is a large gated courtyard with benches and gardens. An entrance into the educational building at the far side can be seen. North of the courtyard is a three-story educational building constructed some time in the 1940s.

This church withdrew from the Southern Baptist Convention in 2001, but still works closely with the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma and the Capital Baptist Association. They are involved in many ministries within the local area. The church offers a bilingual (Spanish/English) ministry, and runs an English Language Center for those wishing to improve their language skills. The building is used also by the United Myanmar Baptist Church.

The inner city is growing rapidly, with more and more people moving back into the downtown and near-town areas, and the church's opportunities for ministry continue to grow. A multi-cultural atmosphere offers many ministry challenges.
