J.A. Mahoney, a early Deming businessman built this structure to be one of the finest buildings in the state at the time. The dates on the facade are 1885, which was shortly after he first came to Deming and began his business career, and 1912 when this building was built.

The building is also a New Mexico Registered Cultural Property. It is constructed of reinforced concrete and brick. J.A. Mahoney is in tile at the entrances, and it has the block glass skylights inset into the sidewalk that were typical of the time.
