De Otter, Amsterdam - Netherlands - Windmills on Waymarking.com

De Otter is een paltrokmolen gebouwd rond 1631 door de "Houtzaagmolen Compagnie". Functie van de molen was het zagen van hout. De Otter is de enig overgebleven molen van een groep van 12 houtzaagmolens, die verdwenen ten behoeve van stadsuitbreiding.

De molen is tot begin twintigste eeuw in functie geweest. Daarna is hij onttakeld en heeft hij dienst gedaan als opslagplaats. Nadat De Otter in 1977 op de monumentenlijst was geplaatst is hij van 1994 tot 1996 ingrijpend gerestaureerd. Hierna is hij tot 2007 regelmatig in bedrijf geweest. Na nieuwe hoogbouw in de buurt vangt de molen sindsdien te weinig wind om nog te kunnen functioneren en staat hij er werkeloos bij.
