This is one of Hitchin Lookers' favourite pubs. It is just not possible to get a pub closer to the brewery than this!

The usual heraldic reference of The White Lion is to Edward IV, the Earls of March or the Duke of Norfolk. It is common in eastern England, but less so here.
In nature the white lion is a mutation, but in heraldry may signify strength and purity.
This White Lion is now used for landlord training, but operates as a normal pub but with reduced hours. It is part of the fabric of the brewery. Just across the road, Wadworths keep their Shire horses who can be visited when they are not working or on holiday.
