This is a very tall black pump on the wall in Pebble Lane. It is in the old part of Aylesbury and was installed in 1840.

I am not sure if it is still in working order as the handle is chained to the pump. According to the British Listed Building website, the pump is Grade II Listed, and is the only remaining example of the public pumps that supplied Aylesbury with drinking water.

The inscription reads

THIS WATER PUMP WAS INSTALLED C1840 TO PROVIDE DRINKING WATER FOR THE PEOPLE OF AYLESBURY.
This plaque was erected jointly by the Aylesbury Society and Bucks Archaeological Society in Environment week May 1990
