Diese beiden Löwen, die unter Denkmalschutz stehen, gehörten zur großzügigen Schlossanlage Heinrich Carl von Schimmelsmann. Sie lagen am Eingang zur Auffahrt des Schlosses und begrüßten die Besucher, die von der jetzigen Schloßstraße zum Haupteingang am Nordflügel vorfuhren.
Heute flankieren sie wieder an der Spitze des Wandsbeker Marktes die Straßengabelung Schloß-/Wandsbeker Marktstraße. 40 Jahre lang (1962 - 2001) standen die Löwenplastiken ganz in der Nähe ihres ursprünglichen Standortes: gegenüber der Straße Schloßgarten.
