The Hampden Bridge in Kangaroo Valley is the only surviving colonial suspension bridge in NSW. Designed by E M De Burgh of the Public Works Department & built by Loveridge & Hudson, it was opened on 18 May 1898. It still carries traffic with motorists having to give way as it only has one lane. It is highly photographic & attracts considerable attention. I last visited the bridge on 19 January 2011 & drive over it twice a week. The village of Kangaroo Valley sits in one of only 7 naturally enclosed valleys on Planet Earth, with the best known example being The Grand Canyon.
