This interesting place served as a Confederate hospital during the Us Civil War. A cemetery across the road is the final resting place for some of the soldiers who died at the hospital. The building is interesting in that it is a brick stucture built in about 1850 and is still in use and looks like a building that could have been built in the 1950's.

GREENFIELD
Greenfield Church
Built approximately 1850 by Joel S. Graves, Presbyterian minister from Vermont.-First brick building in Colquitt County-Used as a hospital and recruiting station during War Between the States. Dr. Baker E. Watkins and Dr. Samuel Hart resident physicians.
Greenfield School
Built approximately 1850 as annex to church. Ruth Graves, Joel's sister, was first teacher. Roxanna Graves, Joel's daughter, commenced teaching in 1861. Dr Baker E. Watkins-Colquitt County's first school commissioner-established public schools in Colquitt county in 1874 from Greenfield.
Old Greenfield Cemetery- Final resting place for Joel S. Graves, Eunice Whedon Graves, Dr. Baker E. Watkins and Elizabeth Owens Watkins, among many Confederate soldiers who died from injuries in the war.
