Located in the lobby of the Texas Forestry Museum, no admission fee, this statue honors the people who came to the Piney Woods of East Texas and saw not just endless trees, but also a way of life.

The 7 foot tall statue was carved from black walnut with its gorgeous coloring and graining. The ax and handle are from a different wood, one that resembles the wood typical in ax handles. With his high boots and causal pose this axeman strikes a pose that says he is confident in himself and at ease with the world.
