Sculpture is a part of a history of area. The sculpture is made of scrap iron. The plaque with the sculpture reads: COAL SHARK (Edestus heinrichii) I slashed my way through Illinois seas - over 300 million years ago. This place was really different then - a warm salty sea with strange creatures everywhere. But they were all careful around ME - I grew to nine feet long and rarely lost a tooth. Instead, every new one made my power jaw longer and longer.
Coal shark and criroid sculpture by Lucy Slivinski, 2009.
