The Bull Inn has a haunted bedroom and the ghost of a former landlord who met his end on the notorious Pré Hotel bend on the St Albans to Redbourn road.
In the 1970s the landlord of the Bull was Howard Upton who was well aware of the paranormal happenings in the bedroom known as The Blue Room. The room always felt cold and guests would find the covers being pulled off their bed as they slept. Mr. Upton's niece was also a victim when this happened to her several times until she was convinced it was the room then she refused to sleep there. A baby monitor which was left in the room picked up strange noises, and even voices and the sounds of a woman crying. A little girl who stayed in the room reported seeing a grey lady and two builders refused to pay their bill as they thought someone in the pub had been playing tricks on them during the night. It is said that the room was once occupied by a woman who had contracted pneumonia and was burning up with fever so the bedclothes were removed to cool her down. This resulted in her death.

On 20th April 1978 Mr. Upton was travelling along the A5 towards the Pré Hotel bend when his car suddenly veered across the road into the path of an oncoming car killing Mr. Upton instantly. No explanation of why this happened was ever found. Now the Bull has another ghost believed to be that of its former landlord. One woman was working in the bar at the Inn when she felt someone tap her shoulder but when she turned round there was no one there. This happened several times until she fled the bar. Several managers have had gas bottles turn themselves on and loud banging has been heard coming from upstairs when there is no one up there. One landlord's dogs refused to go into the cellar and one was so frightened he actually bit his master.

To add credence to the theory that the ghost is Howard Upton a shield which had belonged to him would move from where it had been placed without human assistance. The shield even flew off the shelf one day and hit the landlord in the back. One particular day of the year seems to see the most activity with chairs and tables being stacked in the middle of the bar, a position they weren't in last thing the previous night.
