This was the coat of arms of the died off noble family Macerel who owned one of the former castles in Aesch in the 14th century. It was chosen to be the municipality coat of arms in 1937.
It must have been added to the town hall in the 1958 renovation, because this building, also a former castle, was owned by the family Blarer von Wartensee until 1851.
