This sign is located at a road junction at the highest point on the Steens Mountain Loop Road. Two additional side roads lead to higher points along the crest. The sign gives the elevation as 9500 feet, from topo maps the junction has an elevation of about 9560 feet. This is said to be the highest road in Oregon.
