The St. Matthias parish is the youngest of the 22 parishes of the city of Osnabrück.
Since 5. 12. 1984 a relic of saint Matthew is kept in the church. Building began on dec 7th 1975 and finished on dec 5th 1976. The church was inaugurated by Bishop Dr. Helmut Hermann Wittler. On 1st of july 1984 St. Matthew becomes a separate parish, formed from parts of the parishes of Liebfrauen, Eversburg and St. Alexander, Wallenhorst. Patronal celebration is on February 24th, the festival is on December 5th. Since October 1999 St. Matthias forms a parish with Liebfrauen, Eversburg.
The front of the altar cross shows the Savior with Mary and John as representatives of redeemed humanity. The back of the altar cross shows the foot washing.
The reliquary grave of the saints Cosmas and Damianus and the consecration certificate are located in the front side of the altar.
The Pentagonal sacrament stele is 2.5 m high and shows 30 pictures of Jesus' life and his work on humanity.
The organ was inaugurated on May 23, 1980.
It was designed by master organ builder Lothar Simon, Muddenhagen and built by Josef Flore (Warburg) and Michael Saul (Osnabrück). It consists of Manual I Hauptwerk, Manual II Brustwerk, Pedalwerk and paddles, a total of 1184 pipes.
