The National Garden Clubs, Inc. is the parent organization for the Blue Star Memorial Highways tribute to the Armed Forces of America. It began in New Jersey in 1944 when a local garden club beautified and planted trees along a 5-1/2 mile stretch of U.S. 22 in honor of those in the Armed Services from New Jersey. Over the years, this memorial dedication has grown until it covers the entire nation.

There are three types of markers: the Memorial Highway Marker, found alongside roadways and at rest stops; the Blue Star Memorial Markers found at veterans' hospitals, national cemeteries, etc; and Blue Star By-Way Markers which can be placed in any appropriate garden setting. The marker highlighted in this posting is a By-Way marker.

Today there are more than 70,000 miles of highway designated as Blue Star Memorial Highways.

This tribute setting is located in Redbud Park, on East Main Street in Marlow. A brick patio area with two stone benches sits in a garden area of the park. There are three flagpoles, which were not flying flags on this day, but most likely fly the flags of the United States, the state of Oklahoma and the POW/MIA flag.

The Blue Star bronze plaque (with a blue star at the top) is attached to a large rock and reads:
