This ferry is a reactive cable ferry, i.e. it has no engine of any kind but uses the power of the current to get across the river.
It has a long tradition. There is a document from 1535 giving the village the right to operate a ferry, but this was a renewal, so the ferry must be much older. Until the 20th century it was used for public transport by locals. With the arrival of cars the way over the bridge 2 kilometers East became faster than the ferry. Since 1960 a local water sports association operates the ferry on Sundays and holidays from May to September (13:30 - 15:30 / 18:00 - 19:00). It is mainly used by hikers. The ferry crosses a country border so you need to have your passport with you.
The Swiss landing is just behind the church.
