The below website gives some history about this library. The 1905 donation of $260,000 for four libraries in Springfield (Central, Forest Park, Indian Orchard, and Memorial Square) would be equivalent to around $14.5 million today. The striking Georgian Revival style building was completed in 1908 per the cornerstone (Waymark WMFP3N). The library itself opened on March 18, 1909 as stated on its website... and continues in that service - open three days a week. The building has been expanded out the back to provide more space. Looks Carnegie made an excellent investment in this community.
