The 33 foot stainless steel statue of Jesus looks down on a complex of gardens, grottos, and sculptures at Trinity Heights two acre outdoor cathedral. It is one of several local statues constructed by Dale Claude Lamphere of Sioux City.
The five ton figure was created in 1998, six years after his completion of the Sacred Heart of Mary, a 30’ tall stainless steel statue which stands at the opposite end of the grounds. Dressed in a flowing robe, Jesus seems to be reaching his hands toward the observer in invitation to follow Him.
The Old Testament prophets told of the coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God, who would be the Savior of the world through his death and resurrection. The life of Jesus is told in the four gospels of the New Testament. He was born to a Jewish family, was baptized by John the Baptist, spent his ministry teaching and healing, and was crucified on the cross for being a threat to the Roman Empire. It was his resurrection that set him apart from other men. Christians believe Jesus rose from the dead and appeared to his disciples before ascending into Heaven.
The statue and complex are located at 2511 33rd Street, Sioux City, IA. Parking is available by the museum and gift shop; paved trails are handicapped accessible. More information can be found on their website: www.trinityheights.com
