This granite marker honoring Col. John L. Smith is in a small park just north of Lexington. It is just south of where Highway 77 forks (to Purcell on the west, and to Lexington on the south).
At this park are two historical markers and this monument honoring Col. Smith. There are trees, many picnic tables, and a pavilion. Parking is on the south side in a gravel lot, next to the church.
Col. John L. Smith was a WWII flying ace and a Medal of Honor recipient.
