This brick church building located at 702 Sheppard Street was constructed in 1939 as a CME Church. The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church is a predominantly black denomination under the broader scope of the Methodist church. The denomination was formed in 1870 to give the black community the ability to select their own ministers and bishops autonomously.
This is a one-story brick building with a gabled roof and partially exposed basement. Most of the windows have been infilled with brick. On a concrete block stairway at the front, a second plaque indicates that the building was remodeled in 1959. This church building appears shut down, however, it is still actively shown in online directories.
