The walk to the trig takes you from the D.O.C. camp ground at Matai Bay along Merita Beach (the southern of the two coves), around both points to Poroa Stream (one hour return). From there follow the stream for 30 minutes. At the signpost, turn left up the steep, slippery hill to Paraawanui Trig. The best views are from a little past the summit (142m.). A round trip can be made but continuing past this point the track is more difficult.
The identification plate is missing from this trig...also parts of the trig!
