Santarem in Portugal
Santarém is a Portuguese city, capital of dstrict of Santarem, with about 28,760 inhabitants.
Since 2002, it is integrated in the statistical region (NUTS II) in subregion of the Alentejo and Statistics (NUTS III) Lezíria Tagus; continues, however, part of the Steering Committee and Regional Development of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, which kept the old name of II with the same name. Still belonged to the old province of Ribatejo (which was the capital and largest town), but now meaningless political-administrative, but constant in the discourse of self-and hetero-identification.
It is also home to a city with 560.2 km ² and 63,630 inhabitants (Escalabitanos) (2008), subdivided into 28 parishes.
