The North Pacific station is now a Mexican Restaurant. Today there are no signs of tracks, rail service has long been gone, but the herald of the former rail line is still emblazoned on two walls of the structure.
In 1886 a spur was built from The Northern Pacific Railroad line at Hauser Junction to Coeur d'Alene. The NP was Coeur d'Alene’s first railroad. Source: The Museum of North Idaho -- Exhibits.
The Coeur d'Alene depot at 3rd and Lakeside was built in 1915. The NP’s chief engineer on the project was W.A. Darling under contract by Peter Van Laken of Coeur d'Alene. The Museum of North Idaho has an Idaho historic site survey on file. The museum also has a 1981 letter from the Burlington Northern Public Relations Department saying that the Engineering Dept. has tracings of floor plans, elevations, details and trackage with a station plat.
Special thanks to Dorothy Dahlgren, Director, Museum of North Idaho, for the additional information surrounding the depot.
