Waterfront Restaurant
in Florida. The History of the Old Key Lime House
, Lantana, Florida.
Lantana came into existence after the Indian wars (1835-1842). In 1873 there were only ten people living around the body of water called Lake Worth. It was a fresh body of water enclosed on all sides by land. It wasn't until many years later that the United States Army Corps of Engineers came along and turned it into the Intracoastal Waterway.
This house is the second oldest house in Lantana and was built by the Lyman family in the summer of 1889. The Lyman's were not the first settlers of Lantana, but they were definitely the establishing founders. As a matter of fact, Mr. Lyman named the town of Lantana, which was incorporated on July 29, 1921. He opened up a store which served as the first Post Office and he was made the first Postmaster.
The Old House Restaurant was established in December 1989. Upon refurbishing the Old House the discovery of the original wood was made. This wood is not manufactured anymore. The original wood is called Dade County Pine.
Recently the Old House changed the décor and menu to fit the Key West/Island Style. Hence the name change to Old Key Lime House, a Seafood Grill and Bar.
