Magnificent stone church on the west side of Fredericksburg that has a long and wonderful history of outreach in the area of missions.

From its inception in 1852 and its first sanctuary in 1854, making it one of the oldest Lutheran Churches in the state, Zion has grown both in the size of its congregations, and the size of its ministry's. A new Sanctuary in 1908, a large fellowship hall and other facilities in 1998, has provided the physical space needed by the congregation.
In mission and outreach, it has planted three churches during its history, it currently works closely with a small rural Church located near Fredericksburg, and has also just started a new Early Head Start childcare program.
With over a dozen small group ministry's and an active youth program, Zion is an active group of believers. Located right on West Main Street, it is easy to find, with plenty of nearby parking. Sunday morning services are held at 8 and 10:30 with the Education Hour beginning at 9:15
The current sanctuary was dedicated on June 12, 1908, built of local limestone, its tall bell tower serves as a landmark on West Main St.An interesting story about the Church property can be found on the Church's website. To quote: "Also surrounding two sides of the original church property is a stucco over stone wall that was originally erected in 1878. Tradition has it that it was primarily built to keep the animals that roamed Main Street from trampling the church."
