Charles William Bocock III, the donor found this cannon buried in Louisiana where he had a seismograph team working. He salvaged what he could and had it restored, to the point where it was capable of being fired, which he did.

As his health began failing, he decided to leave it to the county as a tribute to the men and women of Kerr County who had served in the Armed Forces. Resting on a concrete foundation, it has a bronze marker located beside it that states:

"This Civil War Cannon was donated to the Kerr County Courthouse by Charles William Bocock III May 8, 2000.

Dedicated to all of the men and women of Kerr County throughout the years who have served the State of Texas and the United States of America in the Armed Services."

Description of Memorial:
Civil War cannon at the corner of the courthouse lawn. Noticed the cannon because of the Christmas lights on it. By using a large cluster of red lights coming out of the end of the barrel, and white lights around the barrel, it would give the appearance at night of having just been fired.
