The Wear family was one of the first families to settle in the Clay area. The Wear family migrated to this area from Sevier County, Tennessee prior to the Civil War. The surnames Wear and Ware have been pretty much interchangeable in this area.
The best access is from the parking area at the Alabama Power substation near the Wear Cemetery historical marker on Old Springville Road. There is no sign other than the historical marker.
This cemetery is no longer active and has been pretty much abandoned. It contains 17 legible headstones, including that of Samuel Wear, a Revolutionary War veteran, and 25 - 30 graves marked with blank fieldstones.
