This is a medium-sized, granite marker, pitched like a roof at top, rectangular in shape. It is to the rear left of the Lawn Crest Library, part of the Philadelphia library system. There is a path that leads to it. On the way you will pass two other war memorials flanking the path, one for World War I and the other, for World War II. The memorial is raised up on a one foot, roughly hewn socle; the memorial is 5 feet high, both six feet high.
The gray stone has a simple inscription. It reads Dedicated to the Honor and Sacrifice of Our Men and Women Who Served Our Community in Korean and Vietnam. * * * Let None Forget, They Gave Their All, And Faltered Not, When Came the Call A large flag pole is to the immediate rear of the stone. The memorial is in the center of a concreted area surrounded by grass. Benches flank the edge of the patio.
The memorial can be found in one of Philadelphia's unincorporated neighborhoods, still keeping its identity but now a part of the Philly. Lawncrest is a neighborhood in the "Near" (lower) Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The name is an amalgram of Lawndale and Crescentville, the two primary communities that make up the neighborhood.
