There is an excellent scenic viewpoint giving views of the south west cliffs near Ponta do Pargo, the western tip of Madeira.

A scenic viewpoint in Portuguese is “miradouro” There are many posted miradouros on the island of Madeira as the scenery here is incredible. This old one is at the highly recommended tea house, Casa do Dha Oio, on the road from town to the lighthouse at Ponta do Pargo. The tea house was closed for the season so we had a picnic sitting on the cliff edge with the lizards, 1240 ft above the sea, and enjoying the view. To the left you could see the lighthouse at Ponta do Pargo. To the right were the steep cliffs towards Paul do Mar.
Unfortunately the Miradouro is closed and falling apart. The picnic tables are gone. The exposure to storms here is extreme. The cliff is unstable and they the structure has been abandoned to the whims of nature. The infrastructure funding is going towards massive highway construction, even tunnelling out to this lands end. The scenery remains spectacular.
