These waters, believed to have mineral and medicinal properties, spring from the rock at a constant temperature of 21 degrees centigrade.
Despite its use date back to the Roman times, the springs gained more importance when they were associated with visits to the region Inês de Castro and they served for the cures of this famous lady who was crowned queen by D. Pedro I, after murdered.
One is, however, the direct relationship between the "Eye Water" and population growth around them, giving rise later to the places which are now the parish, as well as its agricultural prosperity, economic and social development, along the centuries.
