Upping Stone - Jonesborough, Tennessee Historic District. - Historic Upping Stones, Hitching Posts, and Carriage Blocks on Waymarking.com

This old hand made Upping Stone located on the street corner near the old May Store in down town Jonesborough across from the Washington County Court House seems to have had an inscription or something carved on the front at one time, as only the out-line is left. It has also been painted yellow before, but most of the paint is almost worn off now. This Upping Stone is located along the Great Stage Road, as Jonesboro (visit link) was a major hub along the route in the 1830's.
