The sign shows the iconic view of Wastwater towards Kirk Fell and Great Gable, with Yewbarrow pyramid on the left and Scafell group on the right. The screes running along the side of Wastwater.

There are limited facilities at the head of Wasdale valley. Just enough to satisfy the visitor. Somewhere to park for free for fellwalkers. Campsites for hardy campers. A pub serving food and beer and comfortable accommodation for softer walkers. An outdoor shop. Public toilets. And some geocaches.

Originally there was a farmhouse serving beer and telling tall tales. After enlargement, the Inn offered accommodation and welcomed all. read more
