Simple!

When the university wanted to expand their library, the students refused to surrender their patch of grass. The university capitulated and designed the addition underground, with an attractive skylight and stairs/elevator entry plaza as the only signs of the library.

Please note the skylight in the background of the photo of the entrance. The entire lawn surrounding the skylight is the roof of the library addition.
